Don’t be fooled, existing restaurant booking systems cannot even do basic tasks properly!

The real question is therefore, should restaurant booking systems that cannot perform the basic requirements of a proper booking system, still be called a booking system?

Specifically, legacy booking systems like SevenRooms, OpenTable, NowBookIt, Resy, ResDiary, Yelp, Chope and Quandoo cannot satisfy what WizButler refers to as the basic requirements of a booking system. These basic requirements include:

1.  Ensuring that new online booking requests are not rejected when the restaurant is only 65% to 65% full. All legacy booking systems and their allocation algorithms can easily think the restaurant is 100% full when there are still plenty of empty tables.

2.  Dynamically rearrange previous booking requests each time a new online booking request is received to maximise the number of bookings taken. All legacy booking systems can only use fixed allocations when a new request is received.

3.  Dynamically rearrange the table layouts in real time to ensure restaurants can get 50% more bookings during a busy service. All legacy booking systems can only use a predetermined fixed table layout.

4.  Dynamically display changing table layouts so staff know how to set up the dining room for a service and for subsequent booking arrivals. All legacy booking systems can only use static table layouts.

5.  Recognising VIP customers making an online booking and autonomously allocating them to their favourite table by rearranging previously allocated bookings. All legacy booking systems with their fixed allocations and fixed table layouts cannot accommodate this.

6.  Allowing customers to edit their prepaid bookings online. All legacy booking systems require customers to call the restaurant and for staff to do edit the booking manually.

7.  A completely autonomous waitlist that also collects of prepayments if required. All legacy booking systems require staff to be involved in this process.

Since, these legacy systems cannot do any of the above basic requirements, should they still be referred to as booking systems?
